SHOW AND TELL …

I love to share rugs and punch needle pieces made by others – and I know people love to see them. Here are a few more for inspiration…

Another vintage version of the sugaring off sent by Meredith… “Here’s another version of the Sugaring Off hooking pattern. Notice two horses and three people. Also very old, backed with cardboard and the burlap held together in the back with strands of burlap. I have treasured it for several years since I bought it at a yard sale for a pitifully small amount of money.”

Dolores finished her second piece, Blooming Birches kit, by hanging it from an antique chair dowel…

Deborah finished Mr. Wiener – again such a different colour plan to my rug and wonderful!!!…

Linda’s lovely Flying Horse..

I hooked a small scrappy runner. During my life as a quilter I loved doing Log Cabin quilts – there is something so homey about the pattern and it translates so well into hooked rugs and a great way of using up bits and pieces. This one was made for a new friend Mary Beth…

Linda hooked this lovely little piece and attached it to a vintage purse handle…

Arlene finished her Lisa Ferguson Christmas Fox – lots of different lovely textural yarns used in this piece…

Louise finished her punch needle as an Easter egg shaped pillow for her Grandson – pattern from “Prim in the Country” Melissa Bowman…

And Karen finished her Maud cat – her very first hooked piece!!!…

SHOW AND TELL…

After I posted Anne’s lovely Sugaring Off hooked rug, Heather sent me pix of a vintage version of the same rug. “I am attaching photos of my antique Bluenose rug, same pattern but in reverse. Pattern # 874.  Mine has lots of trees in the background. I don’t know the history behind it but my mother bought it at an auction and she had it hanging in her cottage in N.S. (I’m originally from NS but live in Ontario now).  I know that it’s an antique but not sure how old it is.  Burlap backing, it’s 28 x 45”.”…

A few of the many punch needle pieces done by Rochelle…

“You Me & The Sea is from Orphaned Wool Designer is Kelly Kanyok, The Confetti Giraffe is designed by Madeline Wilson.  It actually calls for wool and is supposed to be bigger but I did it with thread, All Hallows Eve is from The Old Tattered Flag, Joy is designed by Lisa Barberette, Seahorse is from The Bee Skep and designer is Lisa Prive, Maine Lighthouse is from Heart Creek Farm Creations, Santa Knows is from Teresa Kogut, The Backgammon board is from The Old Tattered Flag…”

SHOW AND TELL…

Dolores finished her Blooming Birches kit – this is only her second piece and completed in about 2 weeks and beautifully done…

Nancy sent me a picture of her completed Primitive Blooms (one of my Karla Gerard patterns) hooked in yarns and so lovely and colourful…

I found this picture of Toni’s fish bones on Facebook and thought I would post it again as I have ONE set of fishbones and pattern left in stock!!!! … a great piece for using up scraps!…

Michelle finished her New sunflower kit and is now looking for a barnwood frame…

Barb finished Island Escape designed by Joanne Page of Woolly Worm Rugs… Love the way it is hung and the finishing at the bottom is brilliant and so creative…

and a lovely version of Joni Black’s A Winter’s Day pattern..

Elaine sent pictures of her Welcome mat (Defranza designs) and Karla Gerard Lake Cottages rugs…

and Jill’s hooked Merry Christmas, Eh… one of my favourite Lisa Ferguson patterns…

SHOW AND TELL…

The sale on my own patterns, Hooked on the Lake, continues this week – 20% off the pattern and 10% off custom dyed wool for these patterns. Email me at hookedonthelake@kingston.net for information if you are interested in any of the Hooked on the Lake designs (page down to the bottom of Rughooking patterns page).

And now for some fun show and tell…

Denise finished her Snowy kit but KNITTED the scarf and put a real pompom on his hat!…

Anne sent this picture of her wonderful Sugaring Off rug – “I am not sure this pattern is available any longer. I bought it from Rags to Rugs quite awhile ago. It is a Blue Nose Rugs pattern. 24” x 40’’.”…and yup, I noticed that the maples in our area are now being prepped for sugaring off…

Jane sent pix of her amazing rug “from a course at Ancaster in 2019 with Karen Kaiser. Course was called Fractured  Photos . I am also attaching the original photo, taken in northern Quebec, near Kuujjuaq.”…

Karen finished her River Otters – I think this is only Karen’s second or third piece!…

On Friday, I had a parking lot meeting with an old friend, Suzanne, who needed some supplies. Despite frigid temperatures, this turned out to be a wonderful show and tell of Suzanne’s more recent rugs. I wanted to share them with you but also wanted to point out a little technique that I have not seen before that I think is fabulous and might be of interest to many of you. Sometimes our rugs have little tiny areas that require a lot more detail than our strips might allow. Suzanne has needlepointed these areas! Not only does it allow her to put in the finer detail and still hook with wider strips or thicker yarns for the rest of the rug, but also, especially in the case of animals, it gives the area a more 3 dimensional look. Check out the eyes and ears in particular…
