A LITTLE FEBRUARY SHOW AND TELL…

Janice sent me a picture of her fun stocking (Shelly Atkinson design)…

and Martine’s first hooked piece with wonderful texture (my Winter Wonderland kit)…

Faith hooked Lisa Ferguson’s Loon in a class with Sarah Guilliana…

Edie finished her Celtic Tree (one of Ingrid Hieronymus’ patterns of the month)…

Sue sent me many pictures of projects she has finished – first is a Karla Gerard hooked pattern and second is a Karla Gerard mini punch needle…

the next is a kit (Molly Made) she picked up on her trip to Newfoundland and a couple of lovely hooked (with yarn) ornaments…

This weekend we had company – friends Bill and Diane. No building or crafting by the boys as the garage was just way tooooooo darned cold this weekend but Di and I hooked and punched… I finished hooking (just have to show bind) my rug which I started hmmm I think 2 weeks ago. This was a pattern I purchased from Wild Cranberry Hooked rugs (paper pattern) which once again I had to adapt to fit the spot in the living room where I want to hang it. It was so much fun – the orange cat represents my two orange cats Chicky and Lucky who have both moved to mouse hunter heaven and the grey cat represents my remaining two tabbies Peanut and Pitou who are no longer interested in mice!!!… The house is our house in the woods surrounded by roses – not that we have any roses however, last year one of my neighbours gifted me with two almost dead rose bushes. She had planted them in front of her house and despite thorns the deer had come in and grazed on the bushes and they were all dead or almost there. So I planted them right up against our back porch where they got lots of heat and sun and watered them every day with wonderful nutritious lake water and wow didn’t they come back beautifully. Never got any blooms as by the time they had actually sprouted leaves it was too late but they got green and beautiful until!!!!! the darned deer discovered them. Well, then we had to start spraying them with stinky stuff to keep the deer away. I am hoping this year we will actually get greenery and blooms…

This was the wonderful pattern…

and this is my adaptation…excuse the fuzziness – either photographer or the camera on my iPad has bad focus!…

Di started her owl punch needle piece and is almost done!!! she punches like a demon…

In the next day or so I will be posting about my show binding finishing class which I will be holding here in the studio on April 1. A great easy fun finish to replace whipping and which leads to many other finishes… If you are interested let me know as it will be limited to no more than 6 people…

SOME MORE SHOW AND TELL…

I started this punch needle piece in December and just could not finish punching it – finally decided to add tongues around the border and I am happy with it although he looks a little grumpy! Must be because I switched out kitty crack (temptations) for healthy kibble 🙂 . Then to find the right piece of “junk” to mount him on. Wellllll, I had this lovely silvery tin grungy (good for Grumpy) file box and he fit but I did not like the empty space at the sides so added some applique tongues. Now I am happy but I don’t think Grumpy has come around to health food…(this item is for sale in my Finished Items for Sale page)…

Gerry sent me a picture of her first mini punch needle all done…

and Karen’s lovely chickadee…

and otters…

and Diane finished the last of her monthly rugs – this is July – gosh what will she do next – hmmmm I will have to think on that 🙂 …

SHOW AND SHARE …

Betty sent me pix of her Penny tree and snowman applique mat – I think she is hooked on stitching!!!…

Diane sent pix of her 3 punch needles ready to attach to their junking finds…

Cheryl sent me a picture of her finally finished rug…

Pearl McGown pattern adapted – Hooked by Cheryl Arthur and Loretta Moore 8.5 cut wool on burlap 5 feet in the round…

Linda sent me pix of two of her finished pieces – the rug is a kit I sell based on a Shelly Atkinson pattern and the second is one of her funky carvings…(both for sale)

I just finished hooking and putting together my gr-iece’s Christmas stocking for this coming Christmas – wellllll in advance haha…

Today was sooooo beautiful – went for a lovely walk – really dressed up warmly which was good as it was still nippy out there UNTIL the sun hit the back of our legs and jackets and oh how lovely. It felt like spring – well on the back of my legs and my back!!! But thoughts of spring must be on my mind as I punched these two little pieces in the last 2 days and attached them to some antique finds…(both pieces are for sale on my Finished Items For Sale page)

This little house punch needle (pattern by Karen Kahle) I attached to a beautiful wooden scoop drawer from an antique roll top desk – it could be hung on the wall but with its lovely flat bottom it can sit on a shelf or bureau and hold glasses, mail or dried flowers…

and at a junk store I found this unusual serving piece – silver plate and a little tarnished! – that had a raised edge on one side and bottom and punched this little flower for it… Gord still has to drill a hole in the handle to hang it…

Tracy sent me a picture of her wonderful scrappy rug made from leftovers and thrift store finds…it will make you smile…

and Helen just finished punching these amazing Irises…

UNTANGLING COLOUR CLASS IN NOVA SCOTIA…

My friend, Carol Shewan, will be teaching this wonderful class and I thought I might post the information so that those of you who are not familiar with the Rughooking Guild of Nova Scotia can check out her in person class…

The Nova Scotia Guild school May 7th -12th is hosting the Untangling Colour workshop with Carol Shewan. This is a 5 day intensive colour course where you will take your colour confidence to the next level. The class covers how to use the colour wheel for rug hooking, value, contrast, chroma, balance, a different harmony every day, how to choose the right background and on the last day you will design and plan an original pattern. There is so much content in this class that you will be learning something new every day.

Registration deadline is coming up quickly, email Carol (cshewan@kingston.net) for more info or check out the RHGNS website.

This is a great opportunity to spend quality time with people who have the same love of rug hooking and have 5 days of fun playing with colour. The 5 x5 patterns are great to test out a potential colour plan or try something outside your comfort zone.

A great class for the new hooker or any one who has wished they were more confident when choosing colours. The picture is one of the samples used in the class…
