VISITORS…

This little guy showed up on the door last week. I could not understand why Lucky was so absorbed at 5 a.m. with staring at the door until I looked a little closer. I know in the picture he looks like a monster but he (she?) was actually only about half an inch long.  Tooooooo cute!  Lucky was so exhausted from all the excitement that he had to have a lie down…

Jill’s most recent completed rug – Llama (one of my Karla Gerard patterns) is wonderful!!!…

PRINCE EDWARD DISTRICT WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ART AND CRAFT SHOW

This Thursday I will be in Picton (Ontario) at the fairgrounds taking part in the PEDWI Art and Craft Show. I will be in my usual location in the Curling rink along with patterns, wool, kits and punch needle supplies. Coincidentally, one of my fellow vendors will be none other than Lisa Ferguson!!!! I will be bringing Lisa’s patterns for hooking and punching but you can also visit with Lisa and see (and buy!) her actual paintings and prints!!! How exciting is that! I will be introducing a few new patterns based on Lisa’s artwork shortly so stay tuned.

Today I received sad sad news. Many of you know that Montreal folk artist Doug Purdy was one of my guest artists during our Studio tours for many years. Doug’s whimsical folk art carvings flew out of the house even BEFORE the show started! Sadly, Doug passed away a few days ago. His humour and gentle nature will be missed…

RAIN RAIN RAIN – HOW WONDERFUL…

Never thought I would get down on my knees and thank Mother Nature for wet days but we have been suffering from this terrific heat spell and drought for far too long. There were days when even out on the boat it was toooooo hot! and the water toooooo warm! I kept searching for cold spots and when I would finally find one I would not leave it! But this morning we got rain – not enough! but I am hoping that over the next few days we will get more. My gardens – which have not been snacked on by deer thanks to my SCARECROWS! – are dry as a bone but I could practically hear squeals of joy as the drops hit the petals! Now of course! that means probably no boating for a few days because taking the cover off and putting it back on is a pain in the tush. But I am happy to sit in my porch and actually feel like hooking!

In the meantime, this coming Sunday July 29 is workshop day in the studio. I am teaching punch needle – a combination of beginner but also mini fish bones – how to finish the bones and what to do with them. Wendo will be teaching her beautiful needle felted Tulips. There are a couple of spots left in the needle felting class – please contact Wendo at wendovan@sympatico.ca to register and get further details. Here is a picture of her beautiful finished piece…

KAREN KAISER’S WATERSIDE HOOKIN…

Well Mother Nature smiled on us yesterday! Lovely breezes off the water, not tooooo hot and very little humidity all added up for the perfect day for Karen’s last hookin. Everyone had a wonderful time and we are all sad to see this annual event end as it draws people from near and far. Thanks to Karen and all the ladies who worked so hard to make this such a fun day for all… A few pix of what was being hooked on…

Diane sent me a picture of her most recent punch needle completed piece. This was based on a free pattern in a vintage magazine which Diane adapted (a lot!) and made to fit her vintage wash board…

On August 2 I will be vending at the PEC Women’s Institute Art’s and Crafts sale in Picton at the Fairgrounds. Lets hope it is not one of these stinker days – hottttttt and humid!!!!  Maybe we will be lucky!!!!

MORE LISA FERGUSON PATTERNS…

Lisa sent me 2 more beautiful designs – Fox and Queen Bee. I will be enlarging these tomorrow and putting them on linen this week…

And a few more patterns on sale for 10.00 off the listed price… these are all the larger versions hence the larger discount (again in Canadian dollars)…

Michelle sent me a picture of her completed punch needle (one of my Karla Gerard punch needle AND RUGHOOKING patterns). It is sooo lovely – and big enough to do a pillow!…

MANY THINGS…

to post about today – let’s see if I remember them all 🙂 …

Firstly, my class for July 29 on the punch needle mini fish bones is now open to any kit you would like to work on so if you were debating about taking the class but not sure you wanted to do the mini fish bones – well you don’t have to!  We will work on punching first and then I will show everyone who is interested how to put the fish bones together. So there is still room in the workshop – just send me an email.

Next, I just finished putting together a kit for a friend, of the new pattern Snowy Owl by Lisa Ferguson and decided I should make up 2 so if this beautiful pattern entices you I do have all the wool put together to hook it. Email me if you are interested…

Thirdly – don’t forget Karen Kaisers hookin this coming Thursday. This will be the last one and promises to be a great day. There will be a number of vendors (me included) so if you need anything let me know and I will try to bring it along.

and Finally!!! I am having a mid summer sale on patterns. Because yup – it will soon be mid summer! These are patterns I have had in stock for a while and have decided I need to purge a bit to make room for new patterns so I will be listing a few each day or so. They are 5.00 off the listed price (Canadian dollars which means if you are in the U.S. take about another 30% off the listed price because of our sadly weak Canadian dollar!). So for today these are the ones I am listing – only one of each in stock…

QUILT SHOW PIX…

Some pictures of the lovely quilt show in Wellington. There were many many more quilts on display but iPad time was limited 😦 …

NEW PATTERNS…

Had a wonderful weekend at the Wellington Quilt Show – there was so much going on in the county that busloads of people were touring around attending all the events and I do believe the lovely quilt show was on the list of stops 🙂 . I did take pictures and will tidy them up and post them later this week (after suitcases of wool are all unpacked and placed back where they belong!).

In the meantime I have a few pictures to share…

Elizabeth attached her lovely little punch needle to one of the sheep boards I carry (made by Vince). I only have one sheep board left!…

Elaine sent me a picture of the Blooming Sheep rug she just finished (one of the Karla Gerard patterns I carry). It turned out soooooo beautifully…

ANDDDDD, a new artist to add to the list of pattern designs. Lisa Ferguson is a local artist who does beautiful watercolour illustrations and paintings and she has given me permission to do some of her lovely pieces as rughooking and punch needle patterns. The first two patterns are perfect for next year’s OHCG Annual as the theme is “Birds”… There will be more of Lisa’s patterns to follow but I thought these would be an amazing start!… How Canadian is that goose?

WESTPORT HOOKIN…

Was a great day. Thank you to all who braved the heat and humidity to attend. In the end we had 76 courageous souls who came and made our day such fun. The AC died the day before but we were able to get our local repairman in to set it at a fixed temperature and noone melted (well not toooo badly) and we had ceiling and floor fans which moved the somewhat warm air around 🙂 . Everyone left with a door prize donated by our wonderful suppliers and many of our very talented friends. The 50/50 went to great new heights thanks to Gord and Louise selling tickets at hmmmmm, questionable rates of 10.00 for 1 or 3 for 5.00! That raised a few eyebrows 🙂 but made the raffle soooo exciting! Plus we had 5 lovely items in our silent auction so all in all we had a fun day and raised a good amount of money for two local charitable organizations who do so much for the community. Thank you all!

This weekend I am vending at the Prince Edward County Quilt Show in Wellington ON. http://www.pecgild.weebly.com. Should be a cooler weekend yeahhhhhh (although I must say I am not going to complain too much as wow the lake is soooo warm I actually have to search for cool spots!). Unfortunately I will be missing a wonderful garden show hosted by my sister, Betty and Sheila Sim who is famous for her beautiful gardens – guess she doesn’t have the deer problem! My sister collects and makes garden art and her place is such fun. Here is a flyer with more info for those close enough to attend…

and a new punch needle pattern(kit) available called “Skye” by Helen Radford:
