TODAY I FINISHED…

FIRST, just a reminder that today is the last day for the discount on Lisa Ferguson patterns and wool – email me if you are interested in any of her patterns (and wool)…

Finally, a small Lisa Ferguson punch needle piece finished. Winter Rabbit had to be mine! I did have to crop it as I had a wonderful frame that I wanted to use that only had a 4 x 4 inch opening. So crop I did and I started to punch – mostly wonderful Valdani variegated threads but also a little DMC in the ears and some lace weight merino yarn for the trees. Everything was going along smoothly until I decided to remeasure because !!!! just like my rughooking, I seem to have a shrinkage issue – my pieces seem to shrink in one direction and stretch in the other. Welllll, after the Tom Thomson fiasco with the beautiful frame I had wanted to use but could not because I had not taken into account this potential problem, I measured part way through and yup 1/4 inch too wide and 1/8 inch to short! So, while my piece was still in the frame I cropped the sides by 1/4 inch (just removed a tree trunk) and added 1/8 inch to the top and continued to punch and yeah, when it was done it was the perfect size. So I will keep that in mind, in future, when I do either a hooked or punched piece to fit a specific frame.

This beautiful frame I have had for many years – bought it when we used to go to North Conway, in a store called Foreside that had wonderful imports from India and the Philippines. This is a beautiful carved wood frame almost 3/4 of an inch thick and I have been trying to find, for years, the perfect piece to put in the frame, and I think Winter Rabbit fits the bill.

So now to make this up as a miniature punch needle kit anddddd I am tempted to make it a 12 by 12 hooked piece and dye those lovely colours…

so here is Lisa’s design…

and my punched piece…

NEW KARLA GERARD PATTERNS…

Just in time for spring, some fun new Karla Gerard patterns. I love dyeing for Karla’s patterns as I get to play with more colourful and brighter tones than I would normally do (I am partial to older, more subdued colours for my own rugs although I have hooked a number of Karla’s patterns in toned-down Karla colours 🙂 ). So if you love these patterns (or any others) and are in need of wool! I do custom dying …

SHOW AND TELL…

Irene’s funky Mosaic from a class with Sue Perry (who is teaching this class at the OHCG Virtual Annual – you may still be able to sign up!)…

Anne just finished Carol Shewan’s pattern by Mark Anthony Jacobson…

Joanne is in the process of framing her Karla Gerard Folk Bird…

Sheila has been hooking up a storm – these next two amazing pieces are her own designs and hooked largely in her beautiful yarns…

Last week I decided my sister Diane needed a D for her door in her LTC facility. She knows how to write her name and anything with a D on it instantly is “hers”. She loves pink, she loves dolphins. I found a wonderful site that has free colouring book pages of the alphabet all done with animals incorporated into the letters so Di got a D with a Dolphin and Pink!!! to go on her door…

At almost the same time a friend sent out an email to one of the groups I belong to asking if people would consider doing a small piece to donate to her mothers facility in bright cheery colours. I suggested that perhaps the same little letter rugs might be interesting – hung on a door people will have a fun way of recognizing their rooms and so…

Betty did R for Rhino with funky toenails…

I did J for Jellyfish…

and Carol donated a lovely S for Swan…

Edie is working on an S for Sunflower(hope to have this soon Edie to show off your fabulous flowers)…

and I think there may be a few other little rugs being worked on… I loved this idea of making something that would brighten up the days of our loved ones who are in lockdown in their retirement homes and long term care facilities.
