The last few weeks have been crazy busy what with visits to mom, trip to Vermont and New Hampshire and ahhhhhhhhhh Camp Iawah rughooking retreat weekend. Yes, the one where those of us who are wise wear elastic waistbands! Despite all the comments! What a wonderful weekend we had – not only did the Camp staff take amazing care of us fulfilling special requests for homemade pizza and Rose’s amazing coconut cream pies and Jim’s scrumptious breakfasts(see, elastic waistbands are a necessity) – but also we laughed and cried (good tears from laughing too much) and were inspired all weekend by the work being done and the amazing show and tell pieces. On top of that we actually HOOKED! and finished a few pieces!!!! The challenge for this year was to repurpose – whether that was repurposing a vintage or antique piece that we attached our rugs or punch needle to or whether it was repurposing used clothing in our hooking. So the pictures below include many of the challenge pieces (some still in the making 🙂 ) …

WILD WEEKS…
A FEW MORE PIX TO INSPIRE YOU…
but first Della Ann would like to know if anyone knows who the designer and/or hooker of the following rugs might be:  TB-09 Paisley; 51-11 Horse Drawn sled and 33-26 Winter scene with Children (from a few posts back). So if anyone out there recognizes these rugs please let me know and I will pass on the info…
AND A FEW MORE…
Since I am off to hooker retreat this weekend (YEAHHHHHHH) I thought I would post a few more pix as I will be gone from Friday morning till Sunday and disconnected! so here are a few more to inspire you… If anyone knows who did the little sheep footstool in the very first set of pix and who the designer of the pattern is could you please help Betsy who neeeeeds to have it :-)…
AND A FEW MORE…
Only took 258 pix!!! Some need to be deleted – although I did bring 10 fully charged batteries with me the camera itself decided it was going to be difficult and would start processing (must have been overstimulated!) every few pix and I would have to shut it down entirely. But I think at least 200+ will be posable! so enjoy…
UPCOMING EVENTS…AND OLDE FORGE HOOKIN…
I thought I would mention again about the upcoming Rideau Valley Boots and Baskets 35th anniversary Hookin to be held on June 4 in the beautiful village of Merickville from 10 – 3. Â This event is open to everyone including non guild members – all you need is your hooking and your enthusiasm and your mug and lunch!!! Drinks and snacks will be provided. Â Cost is 5.00. There will be a rug display, door prizes and beautiful weather! Â So we hope to see a lot of familiar and new faces joining us to celebrate 35 years of our branch. The community centre is located at 106 Read Street in Merickville. Please contact Maureen to register at robertaw@superaje.com.
Last Saturday I spent the day at the Olde Forge Hookin in Ottawa. What a wonderful day – 85+ people joined together to hook, eat, chat, eat, spend, eat (there was a LOT of good food!) and be inspired by some pretty amazing rugs. Since there was a REAL photographer for the day I decided not to take pix however, they have now been posted on the website and you can view them at http://www.ottawarughooking.com/archive.php. Have fun!!!
AUCTION DAY…
Was wonderful. Thank you to all those who donated – wool, patterns, rughooking frames and stands, books, magazines, nylons(for hooking not for wearing 🙂 ), yarns, dye pots and books etc. And a biggggg thank you to all those who took home new stashes. I had to sneak mine in while Gord was working outside! I think I came home with more than I took in for the auction. But I am happy and by the looks on faces as people left – I think there were a lot of others who were happy. Thank you to Sharon and Joanne who provided us with a wonderful array of snacks and lunch.
This coming weekend is our OHCG Annual Rug show being held this year in London at the Lamplighter Inn. Although I cannot go for the entire weekend, I AM planning on going on Sunday to view the rugs. Hmmm, might even have to visit the vendors :-). Our plans almost went down the drain with the last of our water yesterday!!! In the middle of filling the bath the water just STOPPED!!! Not a good thing!!!! Especially since Gord had been playing in the pond and was covered with gunk and stunk! What happened – all I could think of was the pile of laundry and UGH NO WATER – NO COFFEE!! Anyway after checking circuit breakers and turning water on and off we finally checked on the internet and found a great page that dealt with possible problems. Well since Gord and I are NOT plumbers – we called our local plumber and in less than 5 minutes problem solved! Seems Gord used too much water too fast from the well to fill up the pond outside and the connections just did their job and turned everything off rather than letting the pump overheat. So we are good again but we have learned an important lesson – ALWAYS HAVE WATER IN STOCK FOR COFFEE!!!
I hope to have many wonderful pix from the Annual for next week’s posts but in the meantime…
Trish’s lovely celtic letter (pillow to be)…
And Judy’s most recent Deanne Fitzpatrick rug…
OLDE FORGE HOOKIN…
Last Saturday I was invited along with a few others to vend at the Olde Forge annual hookin in Ottawa. What a great day it was – close to 90 hookers along with rugs to inspire all of us. And of course goodies!!! and prizes!!! Pictures will soon be posted on the Olde Forge website so keep checking – in the meantime, if you have not visited the website you can view pictures from previous classes and hookins and various events hosted by the Olde Forge.
Tomorrow is our Rideau Valley Boots and Baskets annual auction. In the past we have had substantial donations from hookers who have decided to retire or hmmm like me feel they have WAYYYYY TOOO MUCH STUFF! Not sure what we will have this year but I am sure there will be lots of great stuff to bid on. So if you can come we are open around 10:30. Bring your mug and lunch although I do know we will be serving some snacks. Last year the majority of the funds that were raised was donated to 3 very worthy causes – so bring your cash and cheque books and come and have some fun.
And now for a picture of Diane’s punch needle version of Joni Black’s A Winter’s Day. Diane decided to adapt the little dog on the left to represent her Bichon Daisy! This is soooooo cute! It will be mounted on a piece of wool and then attached to the frame.
