Another wonderful weekend with great friends, delicious food (although I always think anything I don’t have to cook myself is amazing anyway), time to hook, punch, catch up and comfy beds and our own bathrooms 🙂 … We had a wonderfully productive weekend so here are a few pix of current and previous projects…

SHOW AND TELL…

Sandra sent me pix of her scrappy Cat’s paw rug – it will become the topper for a stool and once the upholsterer is done she will send me the updated pix but I wanted to share this wonderful way of using our scraps in a fun, colourful way…

This week I was on a roll and finished mounting my Loon punch needle in an old primitive tray. Once it was mounted I inserted cork board in the bottom and Gord cut and affixed a piece of wood to separate them. A great way of making your punch needle a functional piece of art…

Edie finished her first wearable mitten done in a class with Winnie Glavine …

Dolores finished her scrappy rug into a wonderful pillow – another great way of using up your bits and pieces…

and finally – delivered this kit to Wendy yesterday at 830 and by mid afternoon she was done hooking – today the fun part of putting it together…

Off to our fall retreat today so hope to finish off the two rugs that I have been dyeing to get done… it will be a wonderful weekend with good friends, good food, good creativity and good BEDS! 🙂 … will post pix next week of show and tell…

PENNY TREE CLASS…

I had a lot of reaction to my announcement of a class – unfortunately I should have mentioned that this is an IN PERSON/IN STUDIO class 🙂 . I am so techno challenged I don’t do zoom classes.

The class information is below – I have one running on December 7 – it is full at 5 people; the other is December 6 and I have 2 openings left. If you live near the Kingston area and are interested in the class please email me. Again, so sorry that I got everyone so excited about it being a Zoom class!

PENNY TREE CLASS…

Thank you for your interest in my first in studio/in person class in a long time.  I have had a great response so have set the following 2 dates – Tuesday December 6 and Wednesday December 7.  The class will start at 11 and run till 3 with a half hour lunch break (please bring your lunch – I will have coffee, tea and water and treats). 

We will start by picking colours for your tree and then I will show you how I use freezer paper to cut out the multiple pennies you will need for your tree.  I will provide freezer paper and your class fee includes the wool for your tree.  Please bring along a good, sharp pair of long scissors for cutting out your pennies.

Next we will cover stacking and stitching with the blanket stitch and wagon wheel stitch using hand dyed merino yarns which cover the edges beautifully.  I will provide the yarn and appropriate needles.  

We will then talk about various ways of attaching them to your styrofoam cone – I personally prefer to pin them as the glue gun can suck in the pennies.  I will have pins and a glue gun for which ever method you prefer.  

We can then talk about various bases and toppers. 

The class fee is 75.00 plus HST and includes instruction, cone, wool, wool thread (one skein), pins, freezer paper and needles – all you need to bring along are your good scissors (I do have a few pairs but everyone probably has their own favourite pair of scissors).  Once I have confirmation of your attendance (and date) I will pick up the cones at Michaels – should you wish to buy your own cone please let me know by return email so that I don’t buy too many.  That would reduce the cost for you from 75.00 to 65.00 plus HST. 

Thank you for joining me for this fun project which will get you in that Christmas mood and give you a fun end product that will adorn your own home or make a wonderful gift.  

A CLASS…

I had so much fun making my penny tree and so many people have asked about it that I am going to hold a small class. In the class you will learn how to use freezer paper to cut this pennies, how to blanket stitch them together with wool thread, how to attach them to your cone and how to finish the topper. You will pick the colours you want for your tree – mine is very traditional reds, greens and golds with the occasional teal thrown in for fun. This is not a one day project (so you will not finish it in the class) but you will learn what you need in order to finish it at home (good TV work). It can be finished in a few days and makes a great prim addition to. your home or a wonderful gift to someone else. Mine is a tall tree but the cones come in various sizes so you can make an entire forest of penny trees. If you are interested let me know and I will plan out the date and time and cost of the class.

and as you can see, I dipped my white pins into mustard paint and now they blend better and I am happy!

and Diane finished off one of my Oh Christmas Tree kits and mounted it on a rusty bedspring!!!!

I just finished another of the projects from my finishing class (finally) – a combination of hooking and applique border. Such fun to do this – may have to try a few more… I may actually do a bit more embellishing – some French knots, echo stitching – all to still be determined!!!…Now just one final sample from my class that I need to finish the braided edge on and all the samples will be done!…

While we were away in Vermont, Diane and I stitched pennies for penny trees – of COURSE we under estimated what we would need and had to make more when we got home. Diane glued hers to her cone – I decided I like mine just pinned in place so still have to find pins with the right heads (not white!) – grungy red, green or gold would be good … May have to just put a dab of silicone on the overlapping edges …

WONDERFUL TIME IN VERMONT…

Last week we took our first “trip” since 2019. We went to Vermont for the Hooked in the Mountains Rug Show. And it was wonderful. We were given permission to post pictures with the name of the designer and hooker so here you go – a few of the rugs at the show…

These next amazing rugs were all hooked and designed by Grace Collette who was one of the feature artists and gave me a wonderful description on how she does her beading on her rugs…
