OUR POP UP SALE…

yesterday was fabulous. We had a good number of people register and come to the sale. All rules were respected and it was fun trying to guess who was behind the mask and big hair – ohhhh, that would have been me in the big hair 🙂 . Thank you to everyone who came and made our day such fun.  We hope to do it again at some point in the future, so if you have suggestions for timing or improvement, please let us know.

I must admit, though, that when I got home I was EXHAUSTED as was Gord. Six months of no shows and I had forgotten how or what to pack and I guess my body forgot what it felt like to stand on a hard floor for so many hours. But a cup of tea on the dock in the sunshine quickly revitalized both of us.  Today, it was gardens and golf and hmmmmm maybe another cuppa on the dock in the beautiful sun.

So Sunday show and tell…

First, 2 more new Lisa Ferguson patterns coming Wednesday – not only does Lisa do wonderful wildlife paintings, but she is also an amazing illustrator of children books. I love this piece…

and of course, we had a few of these little ones hanging around with mom this summer…

Rochelle’s lovely punched pieces (designs by Olde Tattered Flag and Michelle Palmer):

Toni’s amazing travel rug (bet many of you remember that theme song!)…

and Beth’s lovely, textured, Deanne Fitzpatrick abstract…

SHOW AND TELL…

FIRST A QUICK REMINDER THAT WE DO STILL HAVE A FEW SPOTS LEFT FOR 9, 10, NOON AND 1 IN OUR POP UP SALE THIS COMING SATURDAY AT THE NORTH CROSBY COMMUNITY CENTER OUTSIDE WESTPORT.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER EMAIL CAROL SHEWAN. PLEASE BRING YOUR MASKS, RESPECT SOCIAL DISTANCING AND SANITIZE WHEN YOU ENTER.  WE ARE SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU AFTER MANY MONTHS OF ISOLATION.

So, the last two weeks have been finishing weeks for me – finished Purple Rain, finished fixing a vintage rug that had 19 holes in it and today after I get the garage man door off my harvest table (we decided finally to get gutsy and paint it from white to sage green to match the rest of the doors and windows! – only took 13 years!), I plan to frame my Tom Thomson rug. I have been spurred on by cousin Helen who has been living with us for 2 weeks along with her hubby while their kids, who flew in from the UK, quarantined at their place. Helen has been punching up a storm and so far has finished 2 Lisa Ferguson punch needle pieces and started on Karla Gerard’s Gertrude and Elizabeth(see my mini punch needle patterns and kits for more info on these). G&E will be her twin daughters…

Nancy finished her sweet Betsy Reid Elephant…

Patsy sent me pix of her lovely hooked Daffodils inspired by 2 of her paintings…

House and Trees chair pad Kit was hooked by – okay Covid brain has struck again!!!!…

Andrea finished her Steampunk Halloween Pumpkins – inspired by Donna Hrkman…

Nancy finished, using ONLY left over wools, this wonderful pattern from Judy Cripps…

JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS…

Well, the last few days have been on and off – some days it feels like snow is going to start flying and then others it is warrrrrrmmmm – beautiful fall weather. So when I had to put on long sleeves and socks, I started to think of Christmas and contacted Lisa Ferguson about a few wonderful pieces she did up for me as patterns.

These are available in mini punch needle and rughooking – the punch needle immediately and the rughooking patterns around the 23rd.  Gives you lots of time to punch or hook for this Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Eh…

Polar Bear Christmas…

IT IS RAINING, BUT NOT PURPLE!!!!… CORRECTION…

In March I started hooking a commissioned piece. It started off with a bang, of course, because, all of a sudden, with no shows, I had a ton of free time. And lots of energy. Which quickly disappeared – well, energy and time got diverted into different things like gardens and painting the outside of the house and all sorts of jobs! And, although I loved hooking the ladies in this piece (pattern by Sharon Smith) and the fields, once I got to the sky all that purple and red really threw me. I don’t like purple or blue all that much – some dirty smoky blues or greens blues yes! but purple is not a colour I gravitate to. Well, over the months, enough people kept saying “hook that darned sky!” that I was finally shamed into finishing it. And hmmmm, can I admit I actually like the sky now. We did change up the colour somewhat as the person I was hooking it for also realized she did not really like purple all that much either so we went 🙂 smoky blue with some purple – of course we had to keep SOME purple because the name of the rug IS, after all, Purple Rain! So, it is finally done and ready to be mailed and hmmm, what shall I work on next – oh maybe finishing my Porkalicious! She has not, thankfully, come back to eat the house but we did find her in the pond scooping up and eating algae! I did encourage her to eat ALLLLLLL she wanted of the algae! Gord was thrilled as it meant he did not have to scoop. So time she was immortalized!

So here is my version of Purple(ly Blue) Rain…

and a few other lovely finished pieces…

Edie finished her lovely hooked bag… THIS LOVELY DESIGN IS BY Winnie Glavine AND IS CALLED UNDER SIGNAL HILL…

Kim turned her New Sunflower kit into a sweet little pillow:

Joanne finished this colourful version of Blooming Birches (one of my Karla Gerard patterns) and yup that is my special Birches wool in the tree (which I do have in stock!)…

and Leanne did an amazing version of Lisa Ferguson’s Loon…

When I prepared for shows in January – March I think I made up over 40 rughooking kits. I have made many. more since but am trying to clear out stock so I still have 11 beginner kits in stock at 20% off. They are marked on the website – email me if you are interested…

A BIT OF SHOW AND TELL…

It always amazes me how a number of people can hook the same pattern so very differently. Three Blooms is a pattern I carry and I am currently drawing it up and dyeing jewel toned wools for a friend and it reminded me of the different versions people have done and I thought I would share them:

Karla’s original painting:

Chris’ bright vibrant version:

Joan’s very soft version:

Sherri’s more toned down jewel colours version:

and Karen’s fall colours version:

I am sure there are even more out there that I have not seen but these are all so beautiful and all so unique…

and may these other show and tell pieces inspire you – I know I am finally!!! finishing Purple Rain – just starting the show binding today Yeahhhhh… Then on to finishing Porkypine! … soooo

Marie finished her look kit with a wonderful checkered border:

and 2 more rugs by Joan – Karla Gerard pattern…

and this lovely rug based on a card by artist Tish Walsh with permission…

and Leslie finished her beaver rug (her own design) and yellow flowers based on a collage by artist Christina Swerdlow:
