RUG RETREAT SHOW AND TELL…

There was soooooo much creativity going on this weekend. Some of the girls had just returned from a workshop with Deanne Fitzpatrick and were working on ENORMOUS landscape rugs, some brought their finished tessellations (our challenge for this year) along for show and tell – just a wonderful mix of fun pieces being hooked. Some I cannot show as they are part of a challenge for next spring and sadly some I missed because people had to leave early but here is a good sampling of what was going on…

I almost finished water in Copenhagen… Sherri was working on her Lisa Ferguson Fox and Crow… Louise was working on a lonngggggg scrappy runner… Donna’s piece from her DF workshop… Sheila’s piece from her DF workshop… Karen’s piece from her DF workshop… Susan was working on a huge DF pattern… Edie brought her Martina Lesar piece for show and tell… Susan’s tessellation (somehow her pieces always look 100 years old!)… Sheila’s lovely rug for her grandson… Diane’s tessellation… Edie framed Mom… Donna’s gorgeous tessellation… and her stash for her landscape… my tessellation… Andrea’s tessellation and moose (I think the moose is a Martinal Lesar pattern)…Sandi’s Christmas stocking…

A FEW NEW LISA FERGUSON PATTERNS…

Just home from a wonderful weekend hooking, chatting, laughing and being inspired at hooker camp! Oh, and probably eating way too much food (no weigh in tomorrow!!!). I cleaned the lens on my iPad and holy cow what a difference in the quality of the pictures – no more fuzziness! Who knew you had to actually clean the lens 🙂 . So tomorrow I will tidy up the pictures (crop out my feet) and share some of the amazing pieces being worked on and finished. But for now I have a few lovely new Lisa Ferguson patterns I will be adding to the online store this week. These will be available as rughooking and miniature punch needle patterns – just in time for Christmas! And for those of you who live in the area (Kingston Ontario) Lisa will be part of an exhibition at the Tett Centre – an opportunity to see some of her work in person!…

FLEECE FESTIVAL IN WOODSTOCK ONTARIO…

Takes place this Saturday 9-5 at the Woodstock Fairgrounds. Hope some of you can come and enjoy this wonderful, fibrous event!  Everything from roving to rughooking (with felting and knitting and crocheting etc. in between!). Demonstrations and workshops (starting Friday) to keep everyone entertained in between shopping.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING…

Thanksgiving is upon us and I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful holiday with friends, family and hopefully at some point a hook in your hand! Not just a turkey leg! Oh yikes, turkeys in my back yard might not appreciate that comment! If they are looking for acorns they are out of luck! Squirrel got them all 🙂 .

TOM THOMSON…

A wonderful class being taught by Carol Shewan – Tom Thomson is one of my favourite artists and since I cannot afford an original painting by this fabulous Canadian artist I will hook my own original! Because each one is different. There are a few spots left so come join us…

 

A WALK IN THE WOODS WITH Tom Thomson

Nov 16^th , McMartin House, Perth

9:30-3:00

This is a one day workshop where you will hook a pictorial based on the work of Tom Thomson. Workshop fee $85 includes the small 12×14 pattern or $100 for the larger 18×18 pattern both on linen.

We will discuss hooking in a painterly fashion and how to achieve the impressionistic style of this iconic Canadian artist. 

I encourage you to search your stash for wool that you think will work. Spot dyes and textures work extremely well. The patterns are hooked in a #4 cut for the small patterns and a #5 or 6 for the larger ones.

FALL IS IN THE AIR…

and on the ground… That darned black squirrel has cut even more branches off our oak tree – the ground is littered with branches small and large and chomped upon acorns! Which means clean up has become a chore. Unlike the beaver who years ago decided to chomp down all our saplings the squirrels do not clean up. Beaver chopped down and then cleaned up! Squirrel chops down and just leaves the mess for ME to clean up 😦 . Soon however, there will be no acorns left. In fact, yesterday Gord filled up a container with acorns at the golf course and brought them back hoping the squirrel would stop!!!! chopping down the tree – don’t think it worked Gord! There were more downed branches this morning!

I do love fall – love the cold nights and cool days and sunny skies (well some days they are sunny). Makes me want to pull out a really big rug to hook – and so today I start Copenhagen for a friend in the states. This is a relatively large but whimsical pattern by Sharon Smith – I love her patterns – and will be such fun to hook. 

I have already dyed the water and some of the houses and plan to use up little bits and pieces and leftover worms in the sky.

COBOURG HOOKIN WAS …

WONDERFUL. A record number of attendees came to take classes, visit the vendors, enjoy the presentations and rug show and generally just have a lovely day with like minded people(oh and lets not forget the many platefuls of delicious goodies!). Congratulations to the ladies who organized the fun day.
