TODAY I FINISHED…

FIRST, just a reminder that today is the last day for the discount on Lisa Ferguson patterns and wool – email me if you are interested in any of her patterns (and wool)…

Finally, a small Lisa Ferguson punch needle piece finished. Winter Rabbit had to be mine! I did have to crop it as I had a wonderful frame that I wanted to use that only had a 4 x 4 inch opening. So crop I did and I started to punch – mostly wonderful Valdani variegated threads but also a little DMC in the ears and some lace weight merino yarn for the trees. Everything was going along smoothly until I decided to remeasure because !!!! just like my rughooking, I seem to have a shrinkage issue – my pieces seem to shrink in one direction and stretch in the other. Welllll, after the Tom Thomson fiasco with the beautiful frame I had wanted to use but could not because I had not taken into account this potential problem, I measured part way through and yup 1/4 inch too wide and 1/8 inch to short! So, while my piece was still in the frame I cropped the sides by 1/4 inch (just removed a tree trunk) and added 1/8 inch to the top and continued to punch and yeah, when it was done it was the perfect size. So I will keep that in mind, in future, when I do either a hooked or punched piece to fit a specific frame.

This beautiful frame I have had for many years – bought it when we used to go to North Conway, in a store called Foreside that had wonderful imports from India and the Philippines. This is a beautiful carved wood frame almost 3/4 of an inch thick and I have been trying to find, for years, the perfect piece to put in the frame, and I think Winter Rabbit fits the bill.

So now to make this up as a miniature punch needle kit anddddd I am tempted to make it a 12 by 12 hooked piece and dye those lovely colours…

so here is Lisa’s design…

and my punched piece…

  6. Hi Loretta, enjoying your blog as always. Your rabbit and frame were made for each other…stunning! If you make that pattern in a 12×12 rug hooking friendly pattern, I would be interested. If you did, would you be open to kitting it without cutting the wool? All is good here. I find this extra at home time is getting a lot of ´some day’ things done. Hope all is well with you and yours. Hugs
